Impact on Power Consumption - 2 Deep Sleep. The Deep Sleep requires a simple hardware modification - a jumper is needed between the Reset Pin and and Pin D0 of the Wemos D1 mini. Pin D0 on the Wemos maps to GPIO_16 on the ESP8266 - this has a WAKE feature. During the Deep Sleep period, D0/GPIO_16 are held high.

This paper propose an idea and implementation of the power optimization for the solar operated IoT sensor node for the data uploading on cloud. I've tested this on two different Wemos D1 mini boards. I have also tried the EspSoftwareSerial library and was able to force the compiler to select it by making a file named EspSoftwareSerial.h in the library src folder with #include "SoftwareSerial.h". The "onewire" example uses D6, D5 and uses only the Wemos itself.
Re: Unable to flash/use my D1 mini #50173. I have win10 pro and have had no problem with the Arduino IDE 1.6.9 stable 2.3 esp8266 on a Wemos D1 . To flash the esp8266 make sure you have installed the board Wemos D1 r2 & mini chosen the correct port (ex com9) and picked a baud rate ex 921600. There are really good instructions on the github for

Looking back to the actual WEMOS Mini D1 board, it has a properly secured USB port, and nice pads around all relevant vias. There seems to be an effort to revise and improve the board as time goes on.
